Name: Brennan McGuire
Year: 2012
Position: Wide Receiver/Cornerback
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 180 pounds
40: 4.5
Bench: 215
Squat: 385
School: Ross High School
City, State: Hamilton, Ohio

The Skinny: Last season, Brennan McGuire averaged over 18 yards per reception and picked off three passes on defense. On film he displays a blend of power and athleticism that serves him well in the high school game.

A dynamic prospect, McGuire plays both wide receiver and cornerback in high school but could become a solid Division I prospect at safety.

Strengths: Excellent hands…catches the ball with the pads of his fingers…ability to change directions quickly…average speed for a high school wide receiver…instincts allow him to make big plays out of short gains…powerful enough to demand gang tackling…strong ball skills on defense.

Areas for Improvement: Lacks the speed burst demonstrated by elite wide receivers…rounds off his routes at times…needs to improve overall speed.

Outlook: While McGuire has found plenty of success on the offensive side of the ball, his listed 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash is suspect. Once he gets a full head of steam he has the ability to outrun the defense, but he lacks the acceleration elite wide receiver possess. Because of that, he likely ends up in a smaller division program or he could focus his attention on developing as a defensive back.

On defense, he’s listed as a cornerback and played that position in the three clips provided, all interceptions.

Again, his speed comes into play as the cornerback position demands both top-end speed and acceleration.

He’s likely better suited to play safety?both because of his 6-foot-2 frame and his foot speed. He possesses solid ball skills and the instincts needed to play the position, but there simply wasn’t enough film available to evaluate him much further.

It’s likely Rivals.com will rank him as a two-star prospect based on the above.
