Q&A with Perrysburg safety Grey Swanson
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season overall I think was pretty good. We went 8-4 overall this year. Not the best and we are definitely shooting for higher this upcoming year. We had some pretty big wins this year including Marysville and Whitmer that defined us as a team and the potential we have. I was pretty happy with how the year ended up for me, but I’m more focused on helping my team be the best we can be.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans now are to continue with our school lifts and offseason workouts. My goal this year is to get faster, because speed kills with this generation of players. The faster you can be, the better it is for you. I plan to stay active and get out on the field as much as I can.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think our team next year will be really good. We had a lot of younger guys playing varsity last year and we are returning about 16 starters total. Our player development within our program is amazing, we have great coaches from freshman through varsity. As long as our younger players continue to take things seriously and are willing to get better than we will do great things. If we focus up in the offseason and throughout the year I know we can be really good. We have amazing coaches and great team chemistry, so I’m excited for what we have in store for next year.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“We always have a few tough teams on the schedule. The new NLL is very tough with all the new competition joining us like Whitmer and Findlay. I think the toughest game for us will be Whitmer. Not only are they a good team but we match up with them really well so it’s always a close game. We went 1-1 against them last year, losing in the normal season but beating them in the playoffs. They have a lot of great players and coaches who know what they’re talking about, so that game will always be good and a tough one for sure.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The toughest individual player we will play against is Ryan Montgomery. He did a great job last year of picking our defense apart, it seemed so easy for him and he was so calm in the pocket. We know what we need to change and how to match up better against him and the Findlay team, so that is another matchup I know we are all heavily looking forward to.”

Q&A with Grandview Heights running back Henry Ohlinger
How did the high school football season go overall?
“This year was a great improvement from the last few years for the Grandview Heights Bobcats. After consecutive 2-8 seasons we improved to 7-4 including a playoff berth for the first time in four years. I am proud to have received 1st team All Ohio honors, 1st team all-district and the 2023 year was a great success.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“For the last few months I have been working out with Hope Fitness Academy on the east side of Columbus as well as workouts with Grandview’s football team. I am also attending camps and showcases including events in Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Chicago. Later this spring I will start my sophomore track season.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think that our team will have even more success next season because of the minimal losses from the senior class and the returning players working hard in the off season. We should be set up for a great year.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think Bexley will be a great game being one of our biggest rivalries. It should be a great game against a talented team in the Bexley Lions.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I think a tough individual to contain will be QB Jackson Frey because of his arm strength and accuracy he can pick apart our already young secondary.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“My goal has always been to play football in college. Ever since I was a little kid I always thought about how cool it would be to play in front of a huge crowd in a nice stadium. I’ve put in so much work that I feel like anything less than playing in college would be a failure.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“There’s been a few colleges that I’ve been in touch with, including University of Pennsylvania, Robert Morris, Thomas Moore, and a few others. I’ve been to game day visits at Robert Morris and Toledo. No official visits or anything like that yet but I know that most recruiting for most players happens in the summer going into senior year, so I’m just waiting for that first opportunity.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“University of Pennsylvania definitely sends me the most texts. The coach usually checks in and sends a graphic every now and then. Robert Morris sends me the most emails regarding their campus and football program and also camps and certain events they invite me to attend.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Like I mentioned, I’ve gone on a few game day visits but not an official visit. I have been to Toledo twice for game day visits, and I went to Robert Morris once. I was invited to a UPenn and a Brown University game day but my family wasn’t able to make either of those trips. This upcoming year I plan to go to as many of the game day visits as I can, and hopefully some official visits as well.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“No trips anytime soon, just working with the team and getting better every day.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I’m from Ohio, so you know the dream team is Ohio State. That’s a long shot but it’s somewhere everyone wanted to go when they were younger. More realistically it was probably Toledo. My mom is an alumnus from there so I’ve been on campus many times and I love the atmosphere of the games and tailgating. I’ve been to Toledo multiple times and I really love the campus and school in general.”

Q&A with Centerville quarterback Drake Wells

How did the high school football season go overall?
“We went 10-3 overall. We had a lot of returners from the previous season on defense, but our offense was very new. It took 3 games for our offense to really get rolling. After that, our offense just started clicking, and we were driving down the field all the time. In the first drive of week 7, I broke my collarbone. Once that happened, I just had to step in as almost a coach and try to help not only the QB that stepped up, but the offense as a whole to get used to a completely new style of QB. Braylon Newcomb, normally a slot receiver, was the one who came in to QB. He did a great job learning quickly and doing what he does best.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am currently playing baseball, specifically pitching. I’m also lifting regularly with the baseball team and on my own. I train with QB trainers whenever I get time.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I believe our team is going to be very efficient next season. I feel we all have a gritty attitude, and we all want to just flat out out-work the other guys. We’re going to beat people by making them dread having to play us.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Our schedule is very difficult. The GWOC is tough, but our non-conference schedule is tough, too. Springfield will probably be the toughest, but I’m also looking forward to the challenges from Lakota East, Coffman, and Pick Central to start the season.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“There are several tough players in our league, but I’d say Javon Hammonds Jr. from Wayne.”

“Yes, I’d like to play college football.”

“We were able to win a share of the league championship and get to round 2 of the playoffs l. I missed 6 weeks of the season due to a knee injury but was able to get back at the end and contribute.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plan is to attend team workouts and meetings to get ready for my senior season and also attend camps in the summer.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I’m excited for the season. I feel like we have a great roster of talent and everyone is in the right role to help us win some games.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Massillon is our arch rival and our toughest competition every year. Neither of us want to lose to each other and the emotions and lead up to the game is always a big deal. We are always looking forward to getting the best out of each other week 10.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“We have a bunch of tough competitors on our upcoming schedule. Massillon is always loaded with talent and it’s a challenge to go against their offensive line. Avon also has a talented running back we will see in week 2.”

“To commit soon and get stronger and faster. Been working really hard to prepare for next year.”

There are also younger guys that I think will make a difference too and I’m excited to see what they can do.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“There are some good teams in our league with good players but I think Piqua is going to be our toughest competition this year. They always have a good team and they always put up a good fight, but we’re ready for that challenge.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“There are a lot of good players in this league but the toughest player we’ll face is probably Xenias QB. He's got good experience and led his team to an undefeated season so I think that he can do some good things this year.”

“We had a good season, it was great to finally see and be a part of all the work that goes into the season at the Varsity level.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Finished up basketball last month, and was able to get back in the weight room with the guys. For people not playing any winter sports, they have been grinding since December and January.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Every team on our schedule is going to be a good team. I can’t really choose one. GWOC is a great league for Friday night football. Our conference was 27-10 outside of league play. Having said that, I know our guys all have Springfield circled on our schedule as the team to beat.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Springfield’s DB Aaron Scott is the best DB in the country and Withrow’s Chris Henry Jr. is the best WR in the class of 26. So both are probably going to be our biggest test on each side of the ball. There will be hammers every Friday so there is always something to look forward to.”
