What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?

Q&A with Teays Valley wide receiver Harrison Payne

How did the high school football season go overall?
“I think the expectations of the season were high, and I think we underperformed as a team at certain moments. We probably should have had a better record than 5-5, but the team played hard and gave it their all each and every game. I feel that as a team, we never quit.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Recently, Teays Valley hired a new head coach (Coach Brian Cross). So currently, I am grinding in the weight room, getting to know my new coaches, and overall, just getting stronger. Outside of lifting with the team, I spend a majority of my time working on perfecting my wide receiver craft. I am with my dad constantly working on my routes, hands, and speed. I have chosen not to play any other sports because I want to solely focus on my senior season. I have a lot of goals I'm working to reach next year, and it'll all happen based on what I do now.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Honestly, I do not think I can answer how my team will be next year. We have a brand new coach, offense, and defense. We also had 26 seniors last year who graduated, leaving only 5 returning seniors. So, a lot of things will be brand new to me. With that being said though, I feel returning players and myself are extremely excited for how next season will play out.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Out of conference, I feel the 3 teams we play are always tough. But inside the conference, we tend to have a hard time beating Bloom Carroll in the years I have played. But as a team, we never want to take any team lightly, and we will play each team as if they are the hardest team on our schedule.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“There are a lot of great athletes we will face next season. In my career, our coaches always put a great scouting report together, each having gifted athletes from each team. But we always try to focus on the teams we play rather than the athletes on that team. Because a team is not defined by one single individual.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Since I was a little kid, I have always dreamed of playing at the professional level for any sport. But ever since I started playing football, my heart has always led me in the direction of football. And now, with my senior year quickly coming, I still dream of playing football at the next level.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Right now, I have been getting recruitment letters from some d3 and d2 schools. And I've had some d1 letters from Brown University and Robert Morris. My overall goal is to play at a division 1 school. So hopefully, in the near future, some more d1 letters will start coming in.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I am very appreciative of those schools who have contacted me, but I think the school that contacts me the most is Mercyhurst University. Mercyhurst University has a division 2 football program while being in the state of Pennsylvania.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have not yet gone to any official college visits, but with my family, I have traveled across the East Coast to visit some of my favorite colleges. I have also gone to Penn State University and the University of North Carolina for summer camps.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“At this moment, I have no plans to visit any colleges. But in the next few months, I will look into visiting some colleges with my family. And I pray that colleges will soon allow me to come to their campus for an official visit.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I have always lived in central Ohio, just south of Columbus. With that being said, I have grown up watching the Ohio State Buckeyes. It wasn't until recent years when I started to open up my vision and enjoy watching college football as a whole, enjoying any bit of football I could watch.”

Q&A with Berea-Midpark defensive end Andrew Hanchuk
How did the high school football season go overall?
“I started the season pretty well playing both sides of the ball and producing on defense really well! But unfortunately in week 4 I tore my ACL and had to have surgery, so it ended it.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I have been working out and hitting the weight room every day. And hitting it hard! I’m also doing rehab on my knee to get it back to normal.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think we’re going to be a real solid football team! There are going to be some younger kids that are going to have to step up but I know that they will. And then we have some really good talent in the ‘24 and ‘25 class that will produce.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“We open up week 1 with a tough opponent in Cleveland Heights and then our conference is a really good conference, in having teams like Avon, Avon Lake, Olmsted Falls. So I can’t say one game will be the toughest. But those 4 are going to be big games.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Tackle from Avon (Luke Hamilton) and their RB (Jakorion Caffey).”

......................................................................................................
Q&A with Wyoming defensive end Deuce Wiley
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season went really well. I am grateful for the opportunity to get to the state championship. I am satisfied with how last season went.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Currently I am a part of the basketball team and we are in the playoffs but after basketball I plan to get bigger, stronger, and faster.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I believe that our team will have a great season and make a good run in the playoffs.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think Reading or Indian Hill will be the toughest competition. Both of those teams are good programs and they always come and compete when we play them.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I think the toughest individual will be John Podojil out of Indian Hill. We did not get the chance to play him last season because he was injured but he is a game changer.”

......................................................................................................

Because a team is not defined by one single individual.”

......................................................................................................

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now I’m running track, & I train for football every Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday.”

“I transferred to Withrow, I think we have a real shot at a state run.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?

“My friend TJ Englemen.”

......................................................................................................
Q&A with Gilmour Academy running back Andy Kavcic
How did the high school football season go overall?
“Regular season went really well, we went 9-1. Then we had a disappointing first round playoff loss to Geneva.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now, I’m playing baseball, but the whole winter I was doing off-season lifts for football.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We will be smaller, but we have a lot of talent and we should be on track to have the same kind of regular season as last year and hopefully make a playoff run.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“VASJ will most likely be our toughest team to play.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Bo Jackson out of VASJ.”

Q&A with Gilmour Academy athlete Jake Kavcic
How did the high school football season go overall?
“Overall, our season was decent. We went 9-1 but lost in the first round of the playoffs. It was an improvement year for our program but not where we expected to finish.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now, I work out six days a week with my brother and do speed training on Saturdays. We also throw around two times a week. Whenever we get the chance really. I also plan on playing baseball in the Spring.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Next football season, we will be young but still experienced. Many returning guys on our defense will make us stronger on that side of the ball. On offense, it will take a bit of time to find our footing with only four returning guys and one on our offensive line. Based on our attendance in the weight room currently and the hard work everybody is putting in, this upcoming season is looking to potentially be my best year at Gilmour.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“The best team we play next year will probably be Villa Angela St. Joes (VASJ) or buckeye.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The toughest player we will play is probably Bo Jackson from VASJ. He’s a very good player that will need to be contained.”
